{"id":517,"date":"2020-07-01T16:47:33","date_gmt":"2020-07-01T11:17:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dentalpockets.com\/blog\/?p=517"},"modified":"2020-07-01T16:47:34","modified_gmt":"2020-07-01T11:17:34","slug":"clinical-features-of-empyema","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dentalpockets.com\/blog\/clinical-features-of-empyema\/","title":{"rendered":"Clinical Features of Empyema"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p> In this post we shall discuss about the signs, symptoms and clinical features of acute and chronic Empyema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Empyema is the presence of pus in the pleural cavity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-purple-color\">Clinical Features of Acute Empyema<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-purple-color\">Symptoms<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Due to Toxemia: <\/strong>Anorexia, sweats, malaise and loss of weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Due to Primary Disease: <\/strong>Sudden rise in temperature along with fever and rigors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Due to Mechanical Effect: <\/strong>Dyspnea, Cough, Chest Pain and Sputum<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-purple-color\">Signs<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Edema of chest wall<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clubbing develops within 2-3 weeks of onset<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On percussion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stony dull percussion on involved side<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On inspection<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bilaterally symmetrical chest<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asymmetric movement of chest on affected side<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On Auscultation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Absence of vocal resonance<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diminished breath sounds on affected area<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amorphic bronchial breathing heard at apex of pleural effusion at interscapular region of the involved side<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-purple-color\">Clinical Features of Chronic Empyema<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chest pain and fever<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anemia and loss of weight<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chronic sinus tracts in skin or lungs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deformity from fibrosis<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clubbing<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If bronchopleural fistula is present, air can be heard\/felt through a sinus during coughing<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In this post we shall discuss about the signs, symptoms and clinical features of acute and chronic Empyema.
